The art of Reuse: Mini succulent shrines with Mary Kraemer

May 18, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Join us as we meet and create with artist Mary Kraemer. Finding gems from the reclaimed materials from Austin Creative Reuse, we will make mini shrines with succulents! Succulents are super flexible plants that have shallow roots and can be put in almost any container. Decorating and making your own, the most whimsical minded can really go far.

Assembling a shrine is an act of love. It can also be a prayer. Because they are an expression of the spirit, shrines both move us and serve as bridges that connect us to mysteries greater than ourselves. Each plant you use becomes like a “tree” A tree representing, protecting and nurturing an idea, goal or value embodied in the shrine. It’s a great way to empower your life and connect with your plant friends!

Mary Kraemer has a BFA from University of Texas. Practicing recreational horticultural programing for 6 years with a variety of special needs populations, including blind and deaf, children, adolescents, and assisted living adults.

This project is supported in part by the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin Economic Development Department.
